Going back to my grandparents, I am descended from four families – Swartz, Noland, Cross and Wurth. I guess if you were to classify me in a current politically correct manner, I would be considered European-American. My parents and grandparents are shown in the sapling (small tree) to the left. Further information about my earlier ancestors can be found in the family links in the frame on the far left.
The Swartz name is German, the Noland name is Irish, the Cross name is English and the Wurth name is Swiss or Prussian.
My paternal great-grandfather acquired the Swartz name after he emigrated to the United States from Germany. The Noland’s have been in North America since the latter 1600s and several of my Noland ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War. The Cross family, also, may have been in North America since the latter part of the 1600s, although I have not been able to establish clear links to the Crosses of that time. My maternal grandmother’s parents came from Switzerland and Prussia.
I live in Jackson County, Missouri, and know exactly where the Daughters of the American Revolution believes my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather is buried in Jackson County, so I guess I am an 8th generation Jackson Countian.
