TRUMAN-WALLACE-GATES HOME

Truman-Wallace-Gates Home looking northeast.
This is the historical marker in front of the Truman home which is is directly across the street from the home of Joseph and Ella Truman Noland. Joseph and Ella were Harry Truman's uncle and aunt and he was a frequent visitor at their home. The physical proximity of the houses played an important role in Harry Truman's courtship of Bess Wallace. The house originally belonged to Bess' grandfather, George Porterfield Gates.
