MOMMA KITTY IN 2005
I knew I had a momma kitty at my house around Thanksgiving of 2004 before I knew the real Momma Kitty was there. That sounds a bit weird, but here is what happened. My dog Jack caught a big gray cat in my back yard; in fact I thought Jack had injured it so bad that he would die. The cat escaped into my upper barn, but I thought he as a goner. Then, on the same day or the next, while spending some time with my dogs outside, I heard some noise in my lower barn. I went up to the hay loft to check, but I did not find the source of the noise. Later in the day, I was out with my dogs again and heard noise in the same barn again. This time, when I went into the loft, I found the source of the noise - two tiny little kittens, one all black and one black and white.
I assumed that the cat that Jack had caught was the mother of the kitten; and, since I assumed it might not have survived, I took the kittens in and later to the veterinarian. After I had started caring for the kittens, however, I saw a black and white adult cat that looked just like the black and white (tuxedo) kitten. As it turned out, the black and white cat turned out to be a female and the mother of the kittens, so she became Momma Kitty. In all probability, the big gray cat was the father of he kittens and so I called him Big Daddy, though I never found out his owner or was able to take him into my house.
The tuxedo kitten turned out to be a male who I called Barney since I had found him in my barn. The totally black kitten turned out to be a female that I called LaCoal as she was my little lump of coal. Since I had started caring for the kittens, I made no effort to give then back to their mother. Instead the veterinarian supplied me with kitten formula and canned cat food for kittens
Momma Kitty's story is quite different, because she continued to be feral for her entire life. At the time she came around, I was having trouble keeping a job, so I had little money and I do not think there was a place I could take her for spaying at little or no cost. Then, in late 2005 I started having some heart problems that compounded the other problems. The result was that she had 5 litters of kittens - 21 in all.
