This picture was taken on February 24, 2024, which is about the date that these two dogs appeared in my neighborhood and at my house. NaNa is the one laying down and Bowzer is standing in front. This is the picture that I posted on FaceBook and got no response that they belonged to anyone.

NaNa has her head in my lap and looks very appreciative.
Two dogs showed up up in my neighborhood and at my house in February of 2024. I had never seen them in my neighborhod, so I assumed that they were dumped there. I posted their picture on FaceBook but got no response indicating they belonged to someone. I had no intentions of keeping them and they were constantly bothering my neighbors and barking at them as they walked back and forth on our street. Plus, I had no fence at my present house and did not want the additional expense that I knew would come with them.
Nevertheless, they became very friendly to me and the neighbors kind of considered them mine. I took them to the veterinarian and they had no chips and I no longer had any dogs, so I decided to go ahead and keep them. The veterinary expenses involved were far more than I expected, mostly because NaNa had heartworms which cost me a ton to cure. I believe she is fine now other than the fact that she gained a lot of weight during her treatment. Luckily she was already spayed, so I was not looking at a bunch of puppies or the cost of spaying. Plus, the fence I built was not cheap.
I decided to name them Bowzer and NaNa. Bowzer just seemed to be the appropriate name for the smaller dog, but that reminded me of the musical group Sha Na Na, so I decided to call the other larger dog (Sha)NaNa. They are both very sweet dogs, though they do bark a lot at strangers. Bowzer is very rambunctious and likes to jump on me, though I have come to realize that he is just very happy about being cared for properly.
