Raccoons are ubiquitous in my semi-rural neighborhood. If one is not careful in setting their trash outside, they will inevitably get into it and scatter it all over the place. Feeding pets outside causes lots of problems, too, because raccoons will eat more of it than your pets. Raccoons are intelligent little creatures and they have hands that give them lots of ways to get into things. I have lots of experiences with raccoons and pictures.
Besides stealing their food, raccoons can be injurious to small animals like cats, small dogs and chickens, if you have those. I think that my dogs are big enough that they are safe and all of my cats are inside cats now, so they are safe. But, I have chickens now and raccoons are considered predators for chickens. I have built a fence with fencing over the top that so far has kept my chickens safe, but my neighbor has lost some of his chickens to raccoons.
FEEDING AREA RACCOONS
This picture was taken on July 11, 2019, when I was, also, feeding the three feral cats, Bonnie, Clyde and Bugsy. Without feeding the raccoons, they would never have left the cats alone. This appears to be three mothers and five babies.
